Today, we’re excited to announce that Breakthrough has been acquired by MDLIVE, a leading innovator of telehealth services and software. This acquisition will further enhance/springboard MDLIVE’s position in the telehealth market as the nation’s leading provider of medical and behavioral health solutions.
MDLIVE, a leader in telehealth, provides patients with access via video, phone, and secure email to board certified doctors and licensed therapists to receive treatment for non-emergency medical issues. The company is headquartered in Sunrise, Florida and operates in all 50 U.S. states.

When we started Breakthrough, we were very curious why online therapy was not yet common. It seemed like such a good idea!
To understand more, we talked with the founders of several online therapy startups who came before us. We learned online therapy has had several barriers historically, such as limited research on its effectiveness, low adoption of broadband, and hard to use videoconferencing products.
However, each of these barriers has dropped significantly in recent years. We now believe the top reason that online therapy is not commonplace is that it’s still a challenge to get online care reimbursed by insurance. Read the rest of this entry »

A new design
We will be launching an entirely new website design early this summer that will make common features easier to access, improve readability, simplify workflows, and optimize pages for mobile devices (with mobile video sessions on our roadmap).
